The CG-Lock attaches to the tongue of your daily driver's existing 3-point, factory installed seat belt. Once installed, pulling up on the shoulder belt tightens the lap belt portion "racing harness tight" - keeping it as tight as you want until you release it. The shoulder harness remains unrestrained as normal for maximum arm and upper body movement.

By providing you with about 80% of the holding power of a full racing harness, the CG-Lock (the "CG" stands for "Center of Gravity") prevents you from sliding in your seat. I was at Buttonwillow Raceway this past weekend. I've been tracking my car at this same track for four years now although about three years ago I installed a set of Scroth four point harnesses for both passenger and driver. I tried the CG Lock and found it quite easy to install and use. I installed it in a matter of seconds just before the instructor orientation laps. It was a good thing too because that morning I didn't feel like setting up my Scroth harnesses. In fact, once I got the CG Lock cinched down and was on track, I found that I didn't really need to use the harnesses! I ended up using the CG Lock all weekend. Great product! - Sergio

- Note: YET ANOTHER beneft of the CG-Lock... at a recent Pro-Solo... a buddy had his 6-pt on... and couldn't adjust shocks or tire pressures between back-to-back, head-to-head runs because there wasn't enough time to do that AND put the harness back on!

Finally had a chance to try it just this past weekend. Installation was very easy since I switched it between two cars an M3 and a Mazda RX. Took about 8 minutes to figure it out the first time and about thirty seconds switching between cars. Pretty intuitive even without the instructions. M3 has leather seats. Previously always a problem with my butt slipping on the tracks. Nice secure feeling making not only heal and toe easier but clutch work much less straining since I didn't have to constantly brace myself on every turn. Surprisingly, it made the biggest difference in the Mazda. The Mazda has cloth covered "racing" type aftermarket seats, so I thought slipping would be much less. Without the CG-Lock, the Mazda was just a little better than the M3 in terms of bracing myself. However with the GC-lock, the Mazda came alive. The combo of racier cloth seats with a tight belt made the learning curve of going faster drop much more precipitously in the Mazda than the M3. The cars are surprisingly pretty evenly matched due to the mods on the Mazda, however the feel of each is night and day different. The Mazda was twitchy where the M3 was smooth. This translated to a great need for a seat of the pants feel that the CG-lock amplified. If you don't have or want full belts, then the CG-Lock is a must. This should be on top of the Tuner Crowd's list of top "must haves" way before that trick muffler. Great product that gives a huge bang for the buck in helping you drive fast and IN CONTROL.. The CG Lock gave me about 70% of the security that I felt with my previous 4 point harness, at a much lower cost, much easier install, I can use it every day, and it doesn't potentially interfere with the factory safety equipment. At Japfest I was offered the use of a CG-Lock when I went on the track. All I can say is I wish I had thought of it! It stops you having to brace yourself when cornering at speed and means you can concentrate on the track and any hazard that may appear (spinning EVO’s). I recommend anyone planning to do any track work with only standard seat belts installed should get one.

Thanks for your note and the opportunity to try the CG-Lock. I fitted the CG-Lock to my 1998 M3 last week in anticipation of the BMW CCA Driving School at Thunderhill Raceway in Willows, CA. Installation was simple from the clear instructions and took only a few minutes (even with an interruption from my wife). Use of the CG-Lock is equally simple and intuitive, another good thing because I did not have a chance to test the application before I headed to the track. I followed the suggestion in the instructions and used the CG-Lock at slightly less than absolute tightness for the 2+ hour drive to the track. The increased stability was a benefit even for highway driving. Even in the performance seats of an M3, the reduction in movement and sliding was immediately evident. On the track at speed, the CG-Lock provides a noticeable performance advantage, virtually eliminating the slipping and sliding usually encountered using stock 3-point belts. Short of a full 5 point race harness, which is fairly impractical for a street/track car without a roll bar, the CG-Lock is a vast improvement for typical performance driving schools and lapping events. I could see where it would also be an inexpensive and quick performance enhancer for autocrosses and other street competition events, especially when compared to the 4 point add-on harnesses I usually see.

I have been using the evaluation unit you sent for the past week and I am VERY impressed with whole package. Though I haven't had a chance to test it on-track yet, it surely does offer exactly what the testimonials have already stated.

Well, interesting you should ask. I put it in my pickup for a trip to the west side of Vancouver Island to go fishing. Now that was fun. Without my ass sliding around it made the trip way more fun since the pickup is built to play like a sports car. Then when I got home I went to a Porsche track day to play & teach. It did add to the control of the car since my butt was planted and I could shift & brake without having to brace myself. I normally have a five point harness on in the car but opted to use the CG-Lock. By adding the dimension of body control by the CG-Lock I felt comfortable under hard braking & fast car maneuvers. Thank you for a great product. Now I need to get one for the pickup full time. And, I will be recommending them to the drivers I teach. got the CG Locks, and already Installed one on the project jeep.. (a SEMA Show Truck !! for those hearing about this the first time) Those little gadgets are the coolest thing I have EVER seen.. WOW!, what a cool idea and they work great..., They fit the driver's seat belt, just fine.. no problem. the passengers seats all use double pass tongues, but the driver's uses a normal one so no problem there, I will check with some other buddys of mine that have TJ's (wranglers) and Cherokees to see if they are all the same type of setup, I believe they are. In the July 2004 Roundel I noticed an ad for a seat belt locking device sold by CG-Lock http://www.cg-lock.com/ Looked like just the ticket to keep my butt firmly planted during driving school high speed turns. Ordered one for the driver's belt at $44.58 including shipping. Installation was very simple and straight forward. Took me about 15 minutes only because it looked too simple to be true so I took my time. And it actually does what it's advertised to do: allows you to tighten up the lap portion of the three-point belt and lock it in place. The shoulder section of the belt is free to move. I'll find out this Saturday at the Porsche Club DE how much difference it makes for high performance track driving. If you decide to order this product be sure to indicate the make and model car you plan on installing it in. Most BMW seat belts have a lip/ridge on the fastener tongue so you'll need the curved clamp version of the CG-Lock. Usual disclaimers

Hi there - I purchased a CG-Lock a few months ago and used it at 2 track events (street car lapping sessions) and I was amazed by its performance. It held me in the seat around the turns with not problems.

Maybe you remember me from 2 months ago -- I wanted a CG-Lock to use on my GT3 when I was going to Mid-Ohio. Well, I went to Mid-Ohio and used it. It definitely worked as designed: the lap stayed tight.

I have now had the CG-Lock on for a week or so and it is the best thing since sliced bread. Having grown up in the era before inertia-reel belts I have never been satisfied with the tension they provide and have been constantly tugging at my belts to try to achieve a comfortably snug feel. Now I just latch in the CG-Lock and I'm in seventh heaven!

I spent the last week at Deal's Gap and had a great time, the CG Lock was useful in keeping me planted firmly in my seat for our runs over the Tail of the Dragon.

I used the CG Lock at a track weekend this past weekend and it works quite well for me.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT CG-LOCK™

How does the CG-Lock work? Typical automotive-type seat belts do not tighten. They are designed to stay loose. The CG-Lock lets your automotive seat belt work like an aircraft seat belt: when you pull the lap belt tight, it stays as tight as you want. With a CG-Lock installed, you can easily tighten the lap belt portion of your seat belt by pulling up on the shoulder harness. The CG-Lock lets you remove as much slack from the lap belt as you want. A little tightness adds comfort on long trips or during “turbulent” off road driving. A lot of tightness provides a driver with better control during spirited or aggressive driving on the road tracks or off road. The shoulder harness stays loose (just like normal) so you can still easily reach controls on the dashboard.

Is it safe to use a CG-Lock on a seat belt? Yes. The CG-Lock has been extensively tested using industry accepted FMVSS safety standards (Derived NCAP mid sized sedan pulse used. Tests performed to FMVSS 208). In brief, some of the same studies required for new seat belts as required by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Transportation Safety Administration Division (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards 208, 210, and 213) were used to simultaneously compare seat belts with and without the CG-Lock installed. Replicate crash test simulations were conducted at 20 and 35 mile an hour frontal, 20 miles an hour lateral, and in a rollover simulation. Professional analysis of the test data showed there was no reduction (impairment or inhibition) of seat belt performance when a CG-Lock was installed. Low speed tests showed better occupant stability for the seat belt with the CG-Lock installed under both frontal and lateral g (gravity) loads.

Why would I want a CG-Lock on my seat belt? The CG-Lock transforms a typical seat belt into a functional tool for improved driver control and increased comfort for all occupants. The CG-Lock can benefit all sorts of drivers: sport and performance drivers, off road drivers and occupants, police and other emergency vehicle drivers, commuters, truckers, heavy equipment operators, military drivers (off road). The CG-Lock also provides greater comfort for occupants.

How do I install the CG-Lock? The CG-Lock is very simple and quick to install. No drilling or bolts are required. The CG-Lock can be removed and leaves no damage to your vehicle’s seat belt. The only tool you need is an Allen wrench - and a wrench is supplied free with every CG-Lock.

How do you use the CG-Lock? To use a CG-Lock, insert and lock the tongue into the buckle. Push your hips all the way back against the seat back. Push hard. Adjust the seat if necessary to maintain proper spacing from the steering wheel, pedals, and other controls. Sit up straight. Adjust the lap belt low on your waist (as close to your legs as possible). Grasp the shoulder harness just above the CG-Lock and pull away from the CG-Lock parallel to the lap belt to tighten. Pull hard as you push your hips back into the seat. If the lap belt becomes too tight (or if you need to reach into a back pocket for things like toll money), simply rotate the thumb lever down momentarily while lifting the hip closest to the CG-Lock, and the belt will loosen. To exit the vehicle, simply release the seat belt tongue in the usual way and assist the seat belt retractor in rewinding the belt. The weight of the CG-Lock may impede the seat belt retractor. Failure to rewind the belt fully could result in the CG-Lock and tongue being caught in the door when it is closed. Every CG-Lock comes with a complete set of instructions (with lots of diagrams and pictures), making installation quick and easy. Will this work/Is it necessary for back seat passengers? The CG-Lock works with rear seat belts with single pass tongues. All the same comfort uses for a front seat occupant apply to rear seat occupants (comfort on long trips, stability during off road driving).

Will the CG-Lock fit every car? No. The CG-Lock does NOT fit all cars. It does however, fit most cars. The CG-Lock is designed ONLY for use with specific factory-installed (OEM) standard three-point lap/shoulder harnesses. Will the CG-Lock encourage aggressive driving? The CG-Lock is not a safety device. A CG-Lock does not change the laws of physics. The effects of speed, braking distance, lateral G loading, acceptable angles of climb and descent, and other such driving attributes are unchanged by the presence of a CG-Lock and appropriate cautions must be taken irrespective of the use of a CG-Lock. The CG-Lock does offer the experienced driver better control during “aggressive” driving or evasive maneuvers. The CG-Lock is not intended for performance driving on public streets. Will using CG-Lock affect my insurance rates? The CG-Lock is not a safety device. The CG-Lock has been rigorously tested. Professional analysis of the test data showed there was no reduction (impairment or inhibition) of seat belt performance when a CG-Lock was installed.

SAFETY INFORMATION FOR CG-LOCK

CG-LOCK IS NOT A SAFETY DEVICE. Do not use the CG-Lock without first reading and understanding the safety information provided with the product. Do not use the CG-Lock if you do not understand any part of the full Safety Instructions or any part of the "Installation" or "How to Use" Instructions.

General Safety

The CG-Lock is intended expressly for those uses specifically stated; do not use for any other purpose.

The CG-Lock is not a replacement or substitute for the use of appropriate seat belts and/or other safety equipment.

The CG-Lock does not fit all vehicles. If the CG-Lock does not fit your vehicle, return the CG-Lock with a completed Return Form (see the "Return Policy"). You will receive a full refund for the CG-Lock and shipping.

Adjustments to the CG-Lock should be performed with the vehicle safely parked.

The CG-Lock is equipped with an "on/off" function (an "enable/disable" feature). Switching between these settings should only be done with the vehicle safely parked (stationary).

DO NOT DRIVE with the CG-Lock slide in the "on" ("engaged") position without first removing the slack (looseness or excess webbing) from the lap belt by pulling up on the shoulder harness until the lap belt is snug.

Driving with any slack (looseness) in the seat belt system can be hazardous. If the lap belt portion of the seat belt is loosened using the release lever or becomes loose, any slack in the lap belt must be removed by pulling up on the shoulder harness before driving.

If you do not want any tightness on the lap belt portion of the seat belt, remove the CG-Lock slide (disable the CG-Lock) as explained in the "How To Use" instructions.

Do not drive with a loose lap belt unless the CG-Lock slide has been removed.

The CG-Lock is designed ONLY for use with specific factory-installed (OEM) standard three-point lap/shoulder harnesses. The "Installation Instructions" provided in this brochure contain full details.

The user is responsible for installing, inspecting, and maintaining the CG-Lock correctly and according to the supplied directions.

Make all seat adjustments before tightening the lap belt with the CG-Lock. For example, do not tighten the CG-Lock and then move your seat forward or backward. Move the seat first, then tighten the lap belt.

The CG-Lock is equipped with an "on/off" function (an "enable/disable" feature). Remove the slide after each use and store safely. Doing so will prevent use of the CG-Lock by someone unfamiliar with its operation. It is your responsibility to prevent an untrained person using an activated (enabled) CG-Lock in your vehicle.

In some vehicles, the CG-Lock may mar, abrade, or scratch the trim on the B-pillar. If you see the beginnings of any form of unacceptable effect, either discontinue use of the CG-Lock (return under the money back guarantee) or pad or protect the trim area using readily available padding materials, cloth tape, or other suitable method.

All driving is inherently dangerous and is performed under a wide range of conditions and/or driver skills, all of which are uncontrollable by Mather Automotive Innovations, Inc. Mather Automotive Innovations, Inc. accepts no responsibility for the consequences of vehicle use or driver actions whether or not the CG-Lock is used.

The CG-Lock purchaser assumes responsibility and liability for any and all uses and all users, including all restrictions, conditions, and disclaimers provided with the device.

In the event a CG-Lock is in use in a vehicle at the time of an accident or other impact, discontinue use of the CG-Lock at once and remove it at first opportunity. The CG-Lock should be returned to Mather Automotive Innovations, Inc. for a free replacement. Only a shipping and handling fee will be charged.

In any case, Mather Automotive Innovations, Inc. shall not be liable for more than the replacement cost of the CG-Lock. Manufacturer's and seller's liability is limited solely to replacement or refund, and in no case is the manufacturer or seller liable for incidental or coincidental damages.


Performance Driving Uses

The CG-Lock is NOT A SAFETY DEVICE; it does not increase safety and does not decrease risk of accident or harm. Performance applications of the CG-Lock are not intended for street use. Suggested uses include closed-course, sanctioned driver training under the direction and control of appropriate instructors, such as autocrossing during an SCCA or other officially sanctioned event. The CG-Lock is intended for use by trained or highly experienced drivers only (for example, graduates of performance driving schools or advanced driver training, trucker's school, and the like).

A CG-Lock does not change the laws of physics. The effects of speed, conditions of the vehicle and track, braking distance, lateral g loading and traction, acceptable angles of climb and descent, and/or other such driving attributes are unchanged by the presence of a CG-Lock, and appropriate cautions must be taken irrespective of the use of a CG-Lock.


Child Car Safety and Booster Seat Uses

The CG-Lock has not been fully tested for child/infant car safety seat and booster seat applications. At this time, the CG-Lock is not recommended for infant child seat or booster seat applications.

Therapeutic Uses


A physician should be consulted before using the CG-Lock as a treatment or prophylactic for any type of medical condition, including but not limited to back pain, muscle spasm, fatigue, and the like. The CG-Lock is specifically contraindicated for people with sacroiliac joint dysfunction, artificial hips, and any other medical or physical condition incompatible with the CG-Lock unless authorized by a physician.


Comfort (long haul driving) Uses

The increased comfort afforded by the CG-Lock may increase a tendency towards sleepiness, over-relaxation, inattention, or other conditions not conducive to the safe operation of a motor vehicle. Care should be taken at all times to prevent these and other potentially hazardous conditions from occurring.

Limitation or Warranty

King of Imports, Inc. hereby excludes all Warranties of Merchantability and Fitness, and shall not be liable under such Warranties.
